Power Products

My fully charged QuickerTek External Battery is not lasting as long as advertised.

To insure quality, we test the batteries in a controlled set of conditions. Though care is given, your results with the battery may vary. If you have any problems, contact us! We will figure it out together.

How do I know if my External Battery is fully charged?

Depending on which model of battery you have, there are one of two ways to check: Either LED fuel gauge on the front of the battery shows the percentage charged or the LED on the external AC charger will turn green.

Can I use the MacBook Pro External Battery for my MacBook Air?

Yes, although the MagSafe connectors are not the same, the battery will still charge your MacBook Air.

Can I use a different AC charger to charge my External Battery?

No! This may cause damage to the external battery and is not covered under warranty. We can tell if an alternate power source was used by checking the batteries.

Solar Products

Why are the Solar Panels so expensive?

Unfortunately, solar power is still very difficult and inefficient to collect, store and convert, although the cost has come down. The technical difficulties in building a solar panel cause the cost to still be too high for many at this point in time.

Are the Solar Panels water proof?
Yes.
Can I store the power some how?

We can custom build an external battery so that our solar cells can charge them and thus store the power.

Wi-Fi and USB Devices

Where do I find the password to my network?

Usually, this is stored in the keychain, but we can’t tell you what your network passwords are, nor do you want us to be able to do that. You may need to reset your base station and setup so you will know what your network passwords are. You can also contact your internet provider to see if they can help you.

Why do I have to repair permissions before installing software?

Our operating system tells our machines that all third party software is bogus. If you repair permissions before loading new software, it will load smoothly with no hiccups.

How do I know what operating system is running on my computer?

Go the top left corner of the screen and click on the Apple button. Click on the option that reads “About This Mac”.

Is it important to read the manual before trying to use the product?

Yes. It contains all the information about installation, setup, saving network settings, etc.

Can I plug my USB device into the back of the Extreme Base Station to improve the signal?

No. Our USB devices are client (computer) devices not server (Base Station) devices.

Why do I have to uninstall my current software if there is an update?

If you don’t uninstall the current software, the update will just attach itself to the current software you have, and you will not get the update.

Why won’t the QuickerTek unit work when I set the Base Station at 5.8ghz only?
Because until 2009 – 2010 we had only one product that was 802.11a/b/g/n. We now offer USB devices that are dual band, running both 5.8ghz and 2.4ghz.
How can I tell if my network is encrypted?

When the Wireless Utility pops up, it will show you all of the networks in your area that are detected. Find your network on the screen and check out the second to the last column under Encryption. It will say WEP, WPA, TKIP etc. This means that your network is indeed encrypted and hopefully when your network was setup that you wrote down your password and kept it in a safe place.

What is the oldest Mac operating system that works with QuickerTek products?
Depending on which product it is, it is either 10.3.9 or 10.4
What is the difference between "client end" and "server end"?

“Client end” refers to your computer, and “server end” refers to the wireless router (Base Station).

What is "line of sight"?

“Line of sight” means that you have a clear connection from point A to point B. There are no walls, trees, buildings, etc, obscuring the connection between client and server.

What is the difference between the 1 Watt and 2 Watt outdoor units?

1 Watt has 1000 milliwatts of output power for each channel. 2 Watt has 2000 milliwatts of output power of each channel.

What is the difference between omni directional and directional antennas?

Omni directional antennas capture signals in a round “donut shaped” pattern, while the directional antenna must be positioned in line of sight alignment (straight line signal).

Will the QuickerTek products work with a D-link wireless router? Or do I have to purchase the Apple Extreme Base Station?

As long as the wireless router is for both Mac and PC, it will work fine.

My wife’s got a PC laptop. Can we share the signal from one of the QuickerTek products? Or do we have to purchase two units?

No. On most of our products, the USB devices only work for the computer that it is plugged into. But we do have a couple items that connect to the server end which causes a stronger signal coming from the Base Station. This way, every computer in the household can receive a strong signal.

Do I have to have an internal AirPort card to use a USB Quicky?

No. Our units don’t work with the internal AirPort card.

Can I use the Apple Base Station to repeat a network?

No. You can only use it to repeat an Apple Base Station in a WDS network. Check your manual that came with the Base Station or visit Apple’s website.

Can I put an antenna on the Apple Express?

No.

Why doesn’t just putting on a higher gain (dBi) antenna fix the range problem?

Antennas don’t amplify. They just collect signals, and if you have a lot of noise (interference), then a higher gain antenna will not help your problem.

How can I extend the range of my Mac Mini?
The easiest and most efficient way would be to add either a QuickerTek supplied external antenna or QuickerTek supplied high powered radio. We are able to custom make these radios with external antennas, according to your situation and needs.
Can I use a Triband External Antenna to upgrade my Mac Mini?
Yes, however it is a difficult installation process. Using a QuickerTek supplied external antenna or high powered radio is the better option.
