September 18, 2006, Wichita,
Kansas -- QuickerTek has devised a wireless network specifically for marine and RV applications. More than simple wireless cards and antennas, the QuickerTek Marine System (QMS) is a complete solution that allows boaters to use the internet at any marina with any number of onboard computers. The greater distances found at most marinas require as much as 48 times the RF power needed at many offices and the QMS delivers that level of performance.
Previously, wireless boaters pulled into the marina and found that if they could "see" the marina network, the connection was often unreliable and never fast enough to make its use tolerable. Checking email and web surfing was practically impossible, and most users either spent entirely too much money on a complicated wireless system or they simply gave up and dragged their laptop to the marina to use wireless. "Either way, users were frustrated and felt like they were held hostage," said Rick Estes, president, QuickerTek, Inc. "Our Marine System solves both of those challenges and does it at a price that makes boaters happy," Estes continued.
Regardless of the number of Apple Mac OS 9, Mac OS X or Windows XP laptops and/or desktops, wireless networking on your boat is no longer a matter of black magic and finger crossing. QuickerTek has packaged all
of the necessary marine-rated products, mounting hardware and software needed to install and operate a high speed wireless network - even from the furthest marina slip. More than just range extension, the QuickerTek Marine System offers the technology to maintain high speeds over these longer distances.
To make a complete wireless marine solution, QuickerTek builds a LAN on the boat for all of the onboard computers, which then communicates over a wireless connection to the marina wireless 802.11b and/or 802.11g access point or Apple Base Station. There are no wired connections to the computers to degrade wireless performance and make installation tedious - who wants a whole bunch of wires running around your boat for a "wireless" network? A universal repeater supplies the RF signal boost to allow both Macs and Windows computers to converse over the same wireless network connection - something previously not available in most longer distance wireless network designs.
Before now, wireless systems were difficult to find and when you could find one, they were three to four times as expensive and without any instructions, you HAD to be a serious computer geek to make it all work. You also had to know which parts you needed to build it from scratch. If you can use a screwdriver, the QuickerTek Marine System is easy to setup and use anywhere. The QMS price makes it more affordable for broader spectrum of boaters of all sizes.
"Those who regularly cruise and also those that live on their boats can use wireless equipped computers, just like you would normally at your desk. Since we've done all of the engineering work, you know all of the products work together and deliver an exhilarating wireless experience. All of the boat-mounted equipment is saltwater tested. There's nothing missing in the QMS to prevent you from using any high speed marina wireless system - up to 54mbps - at any marina. Don't be afraid to tie off way out there at the end of the dock, because our system will pull in that wireless from the marina and deliver it to every single computer on your boat. Even for a landlubber like me, that's cool!" boasted Rick Estes, president, QuickerTek, Inc.
